Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, dental treatment under general anaesthetic (GA) is generally safe when performed in an advanced GA facility like BDAC. Our experienced specialist anaesthetists, advanced equipment, and thorough patient assessments ensure the highest standards of safety throughout your procedure.

At Brisbane Dental Anaesthetics Centre (BDAC), we provide specialised facilities for dental procedures requiring general anaesthetic (GA) or intravenous (IV) sedation. These include but are not limited to: wisdom teeth extractions, dental implants, All-on-X, extractions, anxious patients and paediatric patients. Our modern centre supports dental professionals in delivering safe and efficient care.

Recovery times vary depending on the procedure and the type of anaesthetic used. Initial recovery takes around 1-4 hours with residual effects lasting up to 24 hours after their procedure.

You will receive detailed pre-procedure instructions prior to your procedure. These include fasting guidelines, medication adjustments if required, and the need for a responsible adult to accompany you home and stay overnight. Following these instructions carefully is essential to ensure your safety and the success of the procedure.

As your procedure is considered out-of-hospital, private health insurance cannot be used to claim anaesthetic fees. However, you may be eligible for significant rebates through the Medicare Safety Net.

In addition to the standard Medicare rebate, many patients qualify for the Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN), which provides up to 80% of out-of-pocket costs for eligible services once the annual threshold has been reached.

2025 EMSN Thresholds:

  • $834.50 – For Commonwealth Concession Card holders and those eligible for Family Tax

Benefit Part A

  • $2,615.50 – For all other individuals and families

How It Works

  • Medicare calculates Safety Net benefits on a calendar year basis (1 January – 31 December).
  • Singles are automatically registered.
  • Couples and families must register as a Medicare Safety Net family to combine medical expenses and qualify for family thresholds.

Our team and billing partner, Medicnet, will assist with processing your Medicare claims and ensuring you receive the maximum rebates available.

If you have any questions about your eligibility for Medicare Safety Net rebates, or about the cost of your procedure, please feel free to reach out to our team for more information.
